Controlling your Online Identity

ComputerWorld has an article entitled Web anonymity can sink your job search, which explains the benefits to having a well-controlled online identity; one of the best, if not the best, ways of doing this is by publishing your own blog, so that when recruiters, or anyone, for that matter, checks you out in Google (and everyone is doing it), they see what you want them to see, not what others may have said. Of course, sometimes you want to blog and NOT associate your identity with what you are writing about; the anonymity of the Internet allows one to participate in conversations that are of interest, but might not be related to one’s professional identity. In such a case, it’s important to take careful control of how your blog and personal information are presented online. (more…)

In This Day Of The Web Is Privacy Needed?

After reading a post at Apple Matters about the current level of anonymity on the Internet and wondered if privacy is needed.It is not uncommon to go by a different name on the Internet which usually follows us wherever we go. While some may not reveal their names, becoming social and revealing much more is needed for many aspects of the Web to function.

While James has a certain level of anonymity in order to protect himself by not putting information where he lives or what he likes, more and more users are doing because the Web was meant to be social. (more…)

Violence in the Internet

This could be no big news - when you start to get noticed real big in a real big community, it’s easy to predict that you’ll be loved by some, hated by some others. In online communities it can be nastier - I don’t believe that people online are different, but lots of them act different. People usualy blame on anonymity, I don’t. I even like anonymity. No, the issue is that people usually have their thoughts repressed, and in the Internet they feel unusualy free to act as they are. I’ve taken my share of threats in the past, and yet this could be no big news. (more…)
